Honda RC213V-S

So what makes this bike so special? Well for starters the RC213V-S is the result of 10 years of research and development and two MotoGP championships. The 2016 model will be as close to the MotoGP version as possible with only the necessary changes made to make it legal for road use.
Honda replaced the pneumatic valves with tradition coil spring type but retained all the updates to the cams and lifters. Also the seamless transmission was replaced with gearing out of the RCV1000R to provide a longer life span for the road going bikes.

To pass all those pesky DMV regulations a few more bits had to be added to the street version but don’t worry the whole package only weighs 20 kg more than Marquez’s race bike. For starters they added head lights, turn signals, mirrors, and a horn which is no surprise. Next up, a speedometer so you can see exactly how fast you’re going before you get pulled over.

To keep things nice and green a catalytic converter was added to get rid of all those unwanted carbon emissions.

To power the RC213V-S Honda set two major goals.

“Achieve high enough power output to enable the speeds needed for MotoGP”

“Make the unit compact – as small as the 800cc engine that fits on the RC212V frame”

Honda opted for compact, short crankshaft 90° V4. The V4 has a 360° crank phase angle that reduces friction and improves power output by eliminating the harmonic balancer. With the updates to the V4 the new 1000cc power plant fits into the same area as the 800cc engine on the RC212-V.

We are looking forward to more details about the new Honda RC213V-S but until then we will be anticipating the first arrival on US soil!

(BTW I don’t think we will get a chance to take this one for a spin given the estimated $185,000 price tag.)

  1. My compliments to all the designers and engineers who came UP with this rather unique and sexy looking machine!!! HOWEVER………..some Fear DOES remain, knowing that sooner or later, some “wannabe” racer who’s rarely even THROWN a leg-over a top-performance sportbike of ANY KIND (mainly YOUNG-guys in their early 20’s),gets their hands on this machine and thinks their racing a MotoGP race while OUT on the city-streets,putting everyone’s life in danger that’s AROUND HIM!!! EEEK!!! Other than THAT……….That’s a sweet machine!!!
